Shin pads are in skates (behind the skate tong) or above it?

I am wondering what is the best way to put shin pads in ice hockey. I tried both ways. It looks like if you tackle them in the skates you can develop kind of lace bite from shin pad, but you get better ankle support.

Your opinion please? Thanks!|||I fold the tongue forward and place the shin pad on top, then tape the shin pad to my leg. I found it was more comfortable, I avoided lace bite, and my skates had the right support.

It's personal preference, try them all, good luck!|||I wear mine so that the bottom tips of the shin pads are above the tongue of my skates. It allows me to have better strides when I skate because I can push forward easier. Also it has a better chance of protecting the front of my ankle if I take a shot from a puck.|||I put mine on under the shin guard, it allows for more flexibility, I think.|||i wear mine above my skate just for the reason that i play field hockey too and its more comfortable for me but i have ankle problems that get really serious sometimes and then i have to wear them further down do what gives you better comfort and performance|||It's a personal preference more than anything. I've seen both.

Whichever one you find less cumbersome and more comfortable is probably the best choice.

One addendum; once you find your preference you should probably take your shin guards with you when buying skates to ensure a proper fit.|||i play with them over the skates, i think it loosens them too much to be underneath|||Depends on what you like. try both styles out and see what you like i personally like it to be slightly above the tounge but i no guys who will wear it over the tounge they say it feels safer and keeps your skate laces from coming untied.
